Pay Scale – Rs. 18,000/- (Level 1 of 7th CPC Pay Matrix) plus allowances as admissible.

The job descriptions of the various Railway Group D job positions are as under:

Pointsman: 

  1. To handle switches or railroad points
  2. To control the lever to direct the train to the required tracks

Porter:

  1. To help railway passengers at stations
  2. To handle loading and unloading of passengers’ luggages

Gateman:

  1. To open and close the gates at level crossing

Helper (Electrical, Mechanical, S & T):

  1. Depends upon the department
  2. In S & T department, they are in charge of  maintenance of signal
  3. In Electrical department, they are in charge of various electrical equipments
